WASHINGTON, July 3, 2025 — The Money Out of Politics Movement (“MOP”) today announced it has formally joined the national call for a general strike by signing the Open Letter in Support of a General Strike, issued by General Strike U.S., joining a growing coalition demanding an end to corporate control of American democracy.
The move signals a bold escalation: if lawmakers continue to ignore the overwhelming, cross-partisan majority of Americans who support removing the influence of corporations, elites, lobbyists, and special interests from politics, the people will escalate until their elected officials have no choice but to listen.
“We welcome this powerful coalition-building moment,” said Bobi Haley, Executive Director of MOP. “The systems our organizations confront—corporatism, racism, ecological degradation—are interconnected. Withdrawing our labor together is a proven lever for change.”
General Strike’s open letter calls for mass mobilization of workers, unions, students, tenants, and grassroots groups. It highlights modern crises, from deportations and voter suppression to climate collapse, as symptoms of a corporate oligarchy prioritizing profit over people.
Key points from General Strike’s letter include:
- Recognition that these injustices are interconnected and systemic.
- Assertion that a general strike is the most powerful nonviolent tool for mass resistance.
- Call to action for a broad coalition to organize the courageous, coordinated campaign necessary for lasting change.
By signing, MOP joins organizations representing millions of people across the nation. MOP’s commitment reinforces that money’s corrupting influence in politics is central to the broader patterns of social and economic inequality addressed in the open letter.
“MOP believes democracy must be rooted in civic power, not corporate cash,” Haley continued. “We are honored to stand in solidarity with this movement-building effort.”
