DETROIT, July 22, 2025 — As part of a nationwide day of action to remove the corrupting influence of money in American politics, the Money Out of Politics Movement (“MOP”) and partners are hosting a March for Integrity in Detroit on Sunday, July 27, at 2:00 PM. The local event will begin with speakers and a rally at Roosevelt Park followed by a march along Michigan Avenue to the McNamara Federal Building and back, symbolically linking the voices of everyday citizens to the halls of power.
Detroit is one of dozens of cities across the country participating in this historic, non-partisan mobilization, culminating in a rally in Washington, D.C. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are expected to rally for reform across the country.
MOP, a veteran-led, non-partisan coalition, is calling for bold, structural changes to ensure that the United States government is accountable to the people, not corporate donors, lobbyists, or special interests. Specifically, the movement demands:
- A ban on lobbyist gifts to members of Congress
- A ban on congressional stock trading
- Abolition of Super PACs and dark money channels
- A constitutional amendment to restore democratic integrity and permanently limit the influence of money in politics
MOP has partnered with leading advocacy organizations, grassroots movements, and think tanks across the country to advance these reforms. The movement also supports and demands the passage of two key pieces of federal legislation introduced in the current Congress, the We the People Amendment (H.J.Res. 54) and the Abolish Super PACs Act (H.R. 2352).
MOP asserts that this is not just another protest—it is a final warning. According to a Pew Research Center survey, 77% percent of Americans across party lines support reforms to limit the influence of money in politics, yet lawmakers continue to ignore the overwhelming majority of their constituents’ voices for personal gain. The March for Integrity is a stark ultimatum: either pass reform, or face escalating pressure. MOP is preparing for sustained mass mobilization, including a nationwide general strike, if Congress fails to act. “We will cripple the economy, disrupt business as usual, and uproot every sense of comfort, normalcy, and control our lawmakers have come to rely on,” said Bobi Haley, executive director of MOP.
“For too long, corporations, billionaires, and special interests have written the rules of our democracy behind closed doors,” said Ray Bearse, a Metro Detroit-based organizer for MOP. “That ends now. On July 27, we mobilize nationwide to restore government of, by, and for the people.”
With rising costs, corporate profiteering, and political gridlock harming American families, MOP argues that corruption fueled by unchecked political spending lies at the heart of national dysfunction. The movement invites people from all political backgrounds to stand united in demanding structural change.
Media are encouraged to attend. Interviews with organizers and local leaders will be available on-site.
